Eisenhower Signals Road To 1960 Nomination
President Eisenhower declared support in principle for Republican leadership goals and rejected personal attacks while addressing the party’s 1960 path. He criticized deficit spending and high taxes, insisted he would consider Taft for the ticket if he wins the nomination, and urged faith in market forces over direct controls to fight inflation. He called the China loss a major international disaster and suggested he could be addressed as Mr Eisenhower.
