Blind Man Builds TV Unit by Hand

Irvin Hershowitz, a blind central office telephone repairman at Bolling Air Force Base, hand-built a functioning television set using tactile methods. He believes training and opportunity enable any average blind person to become competent in skilled work. He holds a patent for an electric circuit heater for the blind and commands a 2,000 watt ham receiver, with Ace the seeing eye dog as constant companion.
