Memorial Day Tears Fade Into a Widow’s Loss
A Memorial Day vignette blends grief and gratitude after a TV show spotlights Major Paul Syverson III, a Lake Zurich native who died in Balad Iraq in 2004. The writer, moved by Jackie Syverson and her children Paul IV and Amy, reflects on fallen soldiers and community remembrance. His tears honor courage and sacrifice as he recalls the family’s story.
