Community Chest Board Approves 1970 Budget Increase

The Baytown Community Chest board approved a 1970 budget of 237709 dollars, about 24 percent higher than 1969 and roughly matching the prior drive total. Nixon arrives in India amid cheers amid protests

Voters To Decide Fate Of Solon Pay

Voters face Amendment No 3 in the Texas constitutional election to allow the legislature to set salaries for members and leaders within limits. New Sterling Library Officials Are Named

Deacon Jones elected chairman of Sterling Memorial Library board. Other members are Mrs. J. H. Lovering Mrs. Farr Hemphill and Dave Moore. Board terms run two years. Jones, a Baytown civic worker, retired in 1966 after leading Pfeiffer Electric Baytown office. He contributes Baytown history to a library card file and is active in Mont Belvieu Church of Christ and the Chamber of Commerce.

Highlands Incorporation Again Top Council Decision

Baytown City Council meets Thursday to decide if Highlands may hold an incorporation election. A committee will report on a land-based levee plan for the Brownwood peninsula and present height options with construction costs and property values. The council has signaled openness to an election if a suitable agreement respects extra-territorial lines, with an area in the northwestern ETJ under consideration.

Barrett Station water and sewer suit filed in Harris County

A group of 46 Barrett Station citizens sue Barrett Station Water and Sewer Corp Crosby State Bank and five directors for $2430 deposits they say were never refunded for a proposed water and sewer system. The suit, assigned to the First Judicial District Court, cites repeated refusals of refunds and seeks court action to recover the funds.

Texas Eastern Chief In Baytown Promoted

W C Bill Britt, longtime Baytown area manager for Texas Eastern Transmission, promoted to operating superintendent of the Eastern natural gas system. The staff post in the Gas Division to be based in Shreveport. Britt will be joined by J C Elmore as Baytown Cuero office manager. Both assume new roles Friday August 1, 1969. Britt began with Texas Eastern May 1, 1947, rising through maintenance foreman and Little Rock division manager before Baytown appointment. He studied at the University of Arkansas and Hendrix College.
