Across eight states farmers like MAMOU LA grow flooded fields to host tens of millions of ducks geese and shorebirds migrating along a Gulf coast flyway. Gautreaux dedicates 762 acres under a 132441 dollar three year contract hoping to cover costs and protect birds despite limited profit. Officials aim for 150000 acres by Aug 15 to shelter Gulf bound birds and stabilize populations amid an oil spill.
