Metals and Chemicals Show Strong Q2 Profits Across Industry
Major U.S. firms report elevated second quarter profits led by steel, nonferrous metals, and oil. U.S. Steel nets 81 million, Kennecott Copper 27.9 million, Aluminum Co of America 22.4 million, with many peers lifting from 1964 levels. Oil majors like Gulf Oil and Socony Mobil post gains as demand and war-time activity boost shipments.
