Eisenhuettenstadt: East German city touted as socialist model
Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, near completion of Hotel Lunik on the Street of the Republic aims to showcase a socialist city with heavy industry focus. Officials say rents are about 10 percent of wages, supermarkets imitate Western stores, and the city was rebuilt from Fuerstenberg origins as Germany's first socialist city with state owned stores and planned industry.
