Ignacio Ramirez remains a prominent figure involved in city civic affairs and volunteer work with local church groups. Community members credit him with organizing neighborhood projects and supporting charitable initiatives through his church and service roles.
A 64 year old Baytown man, Carl Edward Mulhollan Jr., died after a crash at the Bayway and Pin Oak intersection. He was pronounced at 9 45 a m at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. The 1980 Mercury driven by Mulhollan collided with a 1970 GMC pickup driven by James Sciacca of Highlands. Mulhollan was pinned and freed by firefighters with the Jaws of Life. Services set for 10 a m Monday at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel.
GCCSA hosts its first annual Christmas in July Food Drive Monday at Baytown Community Building and Shiloh Baptist Church Crosby Lanes. From 7 am to 5 pm volunteers accept canned vegetables fruits meats and other staples with freezer space for perishables. The first 100 donors receive two Astros game tickets. Food goes to GCCSA Baytown pantry and six local churches.
Rev. Lawrence Martin Jenco, a 51 year old Roman Catholic priest from Joliet Illinois, was freed by Shiite Islamic Jihad kidnappers in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley and delivered to Syrian authorities before likely returning home to the United States. The group warned of consequences if demands are not met. Other hostages include AP journalist Terry A. Anderson and several Americans.
Baytown is urged to back the Grand Parkway, a 155 mile regional freeway linking five counties. Turner Collie Braden warns a logical corridor with donated right of way can start in 3 to 4 months, with state construction possible once land and planning are set. Estimated cost about 1 billion dollars, 15 years to finish.

School trustees will examine the sixth budget draft for 1986 87 showing revenues of 65 913 039 and expenditures of 68 398 910. The proposed deficit of 2 5 million would require a 5 7 cent hike in the current tax rate from 89 5 cents per 100 assessed value.
Mont Belvieu City Council meets at City Hall to study and approve drilling new test wells to monitor gas near ground level. Heath Consultants proposed 52 wells to 30 feet and six to 150 feet with later placement decisions. Additional items include drainage, water, land valuation, and a Texas Municipal League action.
The area expects partly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of thundershowers. Saturday night凉low near mid 70s and Sunday highs in the upper 90s. A 24 hour period ending 8 a.m. Saturday recorded a low of 77 and a high of 96 degrees.
Baytown Traffic Commission will meet at 7 p.m. to study raising the Bayway Drive speed limit between Park and San Jacinto from 40 mph. They will consider turning the James Bowie and Cedar Bayou Road intersection into a three way stop and discuss right of way signs at Peggy and North Sixth.
