Tornadic Winds Hit Four Cities in Oklahoma and Missouri

Tornadic like winds injured one person in Collinsville Oklahoma and caused heavy damage across four cities including Tulsa Muskogee and Joplin Missouri. Weather Bureau said Collinsville storm was not a tornado with winds reaching about ten miles an hour in Tulsa. Damage in Collinsville area included five houses and ten barns destroyed or damaged with total losses around 150000 dollars.

Thunderstorm Brings Relief and Minor Damage in Baytown

A Saturday afternoon storm with gusty winds felled trees and limbs, offering relief from near 100 degree heat. Rain totaled 1,234 inches between 56 and 15 p.m., boosting July’s rainfall to 2.1 percent below normal. No widespread power outage occurred, though some sections were affected briefly. telephone service suffered outages as cables and lines were disturbed by lightning. Three Die In Two Baytown Auto Crashes

Two weekend auto accidents in Baytown left three men dead and one woman seriously injured. Donald Walter Whaley 36 of Beaumont and George Lilly 58 of Nogaro were killed in a head on collision on Highway 146 north of Baytown. Sarah Whaley, wife of Whaley, was listed in fair condition with a severed arm. Leon Goudeau 43 of Barrett Station died when crushed under his car after another crash at North Main and Farm Road 1942 near Highlands. Whaley worked at NASA Manned Spacecraft Center.

J L Prince of Highlands Dies at 76 in Texas

James Luther Prince 76 of Highlands died of a heart attack Saturday evening at home. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 2 30 a.m. with Rev. Bonner Magness and Rev. Robert Craig officiating. Burial at Memory Gardens directed by Kartheman Highlands Funeral Home. Survivors include widow Clelia Prince a son Ray Prince a daughter Mrs L P Stevens two sisters four brothers and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Prince was born Jan 18 1888 in Garrson Texas served as a county sheriff and later worked in sales lumber oil and real estate before retiring to Highlands. He was active in the Highlands First Baptist Church and local civic life.
