Investigators hunt for suspects after gravesites at Earthman Memory Gardens on Garth Road were desecrated. A casket was removed and opened in a 24-crypt mausoleum, with two other graves and a separate two-crypt mausoleum damaged. No leads or suspects yet. fingerprints being lifted. Earthman reps say no connection among affected graves.

Remaining defendants in stabbing case sentenced
Sam Alvarez and Richard M. Espinosa, the remaining defendants in the Benavides stabbing case, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in Harris County Court. Alvarez drew a year in jail and Espinosa 218 days, with credit for time served. plea bargains earned their cooperation and testimony against Mike Mendoza Jr. Mendoza received life imprisonment after his murder conviction.

Chamblin, 49, remains jailed without bond. indictment expected before the new date.

Region IV cuts driver education classes in area districts
The Region IV Education Service Center ends driver education with 30 districts including Goose Creek Barbers Hill and Crosby due to a budget drop from 71 million to 23 million. The program costs about 2.5 million annually and supports 23 simulators 60 vehicles and 300 instructors. Some departments are eliminated and after Sept 1 the center will be leaner.
