Wading anglers warned as dangerous Vibrio bacteria strike
Bay City captain Jesse Arsola developed a severe leg infection after a knee cut while wading in Matagorda and Baffin Bay. Doctors suspect Vibrio vulnificus from warm seawater, a dangerous bug linked to bloodstream infections in compromised patients. Two others in Port O’Connor area also required ICU care, with one losing a foot. Prevention includes keeping wounds dry, wearing waders, and treating cuts in water promptly.
