Railroads Delay Strike Deadline Amid Contract Talks
WASHINGTON AP The no strike plan hangs on a 30 day postponement as railroad officials and unions hold second round talks at Baytown and Washington. Loomis says the plan is exploratory and Congress must act by Monday evening to avoid a nationwide work rules strike. The dispute centers on crew makeup and removal of 62000 jobs including 32000 firemen, with Kennedy’s plan under debate before House and Senate commerce committees.
