Wallisville Courthouse Fire and the 1869 to 1876 Governance Split
Wanda Orton traces a 19th century Wallisville courthouse fire amid debates on arson motives and a shift from five justices of the peace to a new state constitution. The piece covers subsequent relocations, the 1886 brick courthouse, and the move of county records to Anahuac by 1908, ending with a note on her column’s return.
