With demand rising nationwide, Lee College marks one of its largest nursing classes as 59 graduates complete training. Graduates enter a field with high demand and strong employment prospects.
Baytown's 2A theater begins Meredith Wilson's The Music Man for a three weekend run at the theater starting Friday. Cast includes Alberta Bert Bergeron Aline Wells Geaslin and Mike Messick.

The 211 service urges Baytonians with special health or transportation needs to register for ride coordination in a hurricane. Residents without vehicles should call 211 to add personal details to a database emergency planners can use if Gulf Coast storms threaten the area. Since May 1 United Way initiated the program.
Volunteers at the statewide SEE 211 registry gather counts of residents needing evacuation assistance. Calls require name address and phone, optional emergency contact and medical details. Officials say registry works but not all special needs residents are registered, stressing its importance to locate those needing service. Baytown reports helping over 1,200 people through SEE 211.
Mont Belvieu residents Lauren Marchese and Luke Crain won in the CCA STAR contest for catching tagged redfish. Each earned a chance at boat and truck prizes, with Crain receiving a $20,000 college scholarship due to age, plus a vehicle.
Lee College paused renovation of the former Community Resources Credit Union building at 909 Decker Drive after asbestos was found. About 73 employees and contractors, including President Martha Ellis, worked there during a two week period before shutdown. A consultant found no airborne asbestos. those potentially exposed will receive free tests and medical follow up. No exposures reported so far. An anonymous tip prompted a Texas DSHS inspection, ongoing.
About 50 Methodist volunteers from Angelton Conroe and Big Springs spent Friday installing a wheelchair ramp on the home of Mildred Wheatfall a Baytown custodian at Robert E Lee High School She praised the volunteers saying they are some great kids and would not have afforded the ramp without them The U M Army teams from out of town completed their projects and headed home Saturday
