Vaccines Cripple Polio But Fight Will Continue
ATLANTA AP Effective vaccines have crippled polio and the fight continues with 1963 promising fewer cases. CDC chief Dr John Witte notes fewer cases through mid July and cites 113 polio cases so far this year versus 252 at the same point last year. He credits Salk and Sabin vaccines and says complete eradication is unlikely soon, though declines should continue as more people are vaccinated and occasional outbreaks may occur where immunization is weak.
