Federal court strikes down Texas voter ID law
A federal appeals court ruled the 2011 Texas voter ID law discriminates against minorities and the poor and must be weakened before November. The 9-6 decision upheld that the law violated the Voting Rights Act and ordered a lower court to devise a way for those unable to obtain IDs to vote. The ruling signals an election-year victory for the Obama administration and could prompt future legal scrutiny of discriminatory intent.
