Feds assess leaks from cap on BP oil well
In Washington BP’s ruptured well shows oil and gas leaking from the cap but officials will keep the cork in place for now. Retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen says the leaks are not a major concern and a nearby seepage is probably unrelated. In New Orleans a federal judge, Martin Feldman, refuses to withdraw from the case after environmental groups sought his disqualification because of oil and gas investments. The appeals court had just rejected the government’s bid to restore a ban on new deepwater permits and suspension of Gulf projects.
