Baytown Oak Tree Survives Threats To Stand Downtown
Baytown’s 300 year old Old Oak Tree, a downtown symbol on Texas Avenue, has endured collisions, herbicide attempts, and two 2006 hit and run incidents. After a 1950 council vote to cut it and a 1989 poisoning scare, it remains termite free for over two months thanks to donated bait traps. City plans to enhance the surrounding median aim to showcase the landmark for years to come.
