Galveston Bay Still Leads Oyster Output
Texas Parks and Wildlife officials say Galveston Bay remains the state's top oyster producer with about 90 percent of Texas oysters. Despite 47 percent of the bay water area closed to oyster production, only 1,500 acres of oyster bottoms are in the restricted zone, and about 250 acres are potentially productive. The department can relocate oysters from closed to approved areas to restore supply after holding periods for safety.
