A benefit event for Chester Baker, Highlands resident and Exxon Mobil veteran, is set for Saturday at Pelican Junction in Baytown from 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Activities include live entertainment, a raffle with a shotgun prize, and an auction to help cover medical costs while Baker remains in critical condition from encephalitis. Tim Bort organizes the fundraiser and calls for donations and auction items.
The Saturday fundraiser at Charlie's Ice House in Highlands netted about $27,000 from selling 489 barbecue plates. Troy Goynes, 18, suffered severe brain trauma and a broken jaw in a prior traffic crash and remains in critical condition. family and friends organized the event with dinners donations and a patio furniture sale.
Texas EquuSearch, the missing person search and recovery team, raised funds at a Baytown barbecue for future missing person searches. The Gold Nugget hosted the event with donations from Chevron Phillips Galena Parks Terminal and auctioned American flags flown at the White House. Other contributors included Outback Steakhouse, Evergreen Point Golf Course, and the Texas Two-Steppers.
Police report an aggravated robbery at 2 45 a m Thursday at the Baytown Inn 1102 N Alexander. A black male about 5 7 tall 170 pounds in his 20s, wearing a red ski mask and blue shirt inside out with a gray top, demanded money with a knife as he fled the motel. Baytown Crime Stoppers offers 500 dollars for information leading to the arrest of five felony suspects. Ermelinda Delagarza 38 is wanted for possession of a controlled substance. Jesus Salazar 20 faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Michael Taylor 29 is sought for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Roderick Simien 24 is wanted for unlawful possession of a firearm. A separate report notes a 9 11 am crash at East James Avenue and North 7th Street: a driver fled, a black 1997 Ford with Texas plate SOG-TPP involved. A 21-foot aluminum boat valued at 5000 was stolen on Evergreen Road between Friday 4 pm and Monday 7 am.
A woman reported two suspects stole 10000 dollars in cash at 3 11 p m Monday in the 200 block of South 2nd Street. The female suspect was described as Hispanic with a medium build and blonde hair wearing a light blue shirt. The male suspect was described as Hispanic, heavyset with black hair, clean shaven, wearing a striped long sleeve shirt and dark slacks. Police notes also summarize calls in Baytown from Monday to Tuesday.
