Reading Course Offered At Lee College This Summer
Limited registrations are available for remedial reading courses at Lee College starting July 24 for high school and junior high students. Dean Walter Rundell notes few vacancies and urges immediate enrollment at the registrar's office open daily from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The six week course, taught by college faculty, costs 35 dollars. Classes meet five days a week for ninety minutes.

Theodore Floyd Casey, 61, of 315 Highway 146 died at 6:45 am Thursday in a Baytown hospital. He was a longtime Baytown resident. Funeral services set for 10 am Saturday at Paul A. Lee Funeral Home. further arrangements to be announced. Casey born June 22, 1990 at Cedar Bayou. He had been in several months at time of death.

Daughter of convicted kidnapper dies in Everett fire
Brenda Collins, 4, daughter of George Edward Collins, who was convicted of second degree kidnapping in 1957, died in a two story wooden house fire in Everett. Collins, 23, is serving a nine year term at the Monroe state reform school. His wife’s location is unknown. Brenda had been living with her grandparents when the fire occurred.

Walter Rundell Jr., 22, of Baytown, named assistant executive secretary of the American Historical Association in Washington, D. C. He will liaise with history teachers and report advances in research. Rundell's career includes teaching at Texas Woman's University and Del Mar College, plus U.S. Army historical service in WWII. Texas House Hears Compromise Sales Tax Plan
Austin AP The Texas House Revenue and Tax Committee opened hearings on Governor Price Daniel’s compromise sales tax measure HB20, part of a $359 million package led by Rep. Charles Ballman.
