Toyota to build Prius in U S as trucks trimmed
Toyota plans to start Prius production in late 2010 at a new Blue Springs Mississippi plant, marking the first Prius manufactured outside Japan and China. To align with demand, Toyota will suspend Tundra and Sequoia output for three months, consolidate truck production in San Antonio, and shift Princeton line to Highlander while continuing Sienna. The moves reflect weak U S demand for trucks and SUVs with June sales down 21 percent. Prius and Tundra declines also cited.
