First women astronauts fueled a girl’s dream to blast off
Deana Nail recalls the 13 women pilots who passed NASA tests in 1961 but were deemed unfit due to gender. The piece links their struggle to her own childhood memory in 1978 when a boy tried to deny a girl a Darth Vader doll. She credits those early pioneers and urges parents to empower daughters to pursue space, science, and any dream.
