Strange land deals and a Baytown neighbor in 1820s Texas
Wanda Orton recalls James Strange, a bachelor who joined the Stephen F. Austin colony in 1824, claimed land on Scott Bay near present day Baytown Nature Center, and later served as a local constable. He may have sold to Kokernot or Bloodgood, with flashpoints involving Scott and Lynch neighbors and militia service in the Lynchburg Volunteers during the 1835 siege era. The tale blends immigration origins, art rumors, and early Texas settlement.
