Baytown revamps senior transit with new Para-Transit program
Baytown cut monthly ride limits for the Senior and Disabled Citizens Taxi Program by half and replaced it with a seven days a week free para transit system. The taxi service now limits riders to four trips a month. Para transit requires two days advance scheduling and serves all Baytown locations including the Houston Medical Center. Funding comes from a Texas DOT grant of 160000 in October and 120000 in November, while the taxi program relies on federal CDBG funds totaling 1.09 million this year, down 40000 from last year.

Baytown Butterfly Count Sees Debates in Heat
Baytown Nature Center hosted the third annual Baytown Texas Butterfly Count with more than a dozen counters in near 100 degree heat. Volunteers, guided by NABA, covered a 15 mile radius to sample butterfly diversity while noting a weak year due to last winter’s freeze.
