Searching For A Home Can Be Work And Fun
Editor's note introduces a two part series weighing pros and cons of buying a home. It notes that renting offers easier upkeep and amenities like yard work and laundry facilities while owning a home entails higher ongoing costs, maintenance, and large upfront deposits. It cites budgeting guidance from Jim Cauley at Citizens Savings, recommending housing costs stay under 20 percent of gross income and down payments of 10 to 20 percent.
