Shark Week reading boost for Goose Creek and Barbers Hill
Shark Week activities at Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center Baytown Stratford Library Highlands and Round-Up Corral West Chambers County sparked local elementary students to engage with the free myON summer reading program. MyON reps Carl Franklin and Linda Bessmer led shark themed activities, with book packs, bookmarks and Chick fil A gift cards. Since May 17, students have logged over 8,000 hours on myON, a Capstone literacy platform offering 24/7 reading with offline downloads and individualized logins for parental and teacher access. ABC coalition and community partners backed the pilot, with Goose Creek incentives offering Pirates Bay passes for 20 books read by July 31 and an iPad mini drawing for 20 books by Sept 2.
