Hope Is Seen For X Disease Cure
Washington July 4 Agri culture department researchers see hope for cattlemen losing 2 million yearly to the X disease in herds. Hyperkeratosis is linked to chlorinated naphthalene compounds found in farm products. some evidence ties pesticides and lubricants to carriers. Tennessee Experiment Station work identified the chemical cause, with healthy cattle fed pantachicronaphthalene showing X disease. Researchers caution further study needed before naming carriers. The disease first appeared in 1941 in New York, spreading to major cattle areas, slashing meat milk and other products. Ancient Egyptians painted enemies on sandals to trample them.
