Chambers County deputies arrested 30 year old Ricardo Gilberto Acosta after a June 24 theft of a Ford F250 from a Winnie Hampton Inn lot. The same vehicle was later stopped in Mont Belvieu with stolen property inside, tying Acosta to multiple vehicle thefts and three vehicle burglaries. Bond set at 20,000 for auto theft and 10,000 for each burglary. A May Harris County case lists another F250 theft by a man of the same name and birth date.
In Austin on Tuesday the Texas Senate moved a major transportation funding plan and a new sentencing option for 17-year-olds convicted of capital murder, both backed across parties. Lawmakers push quick passage despite looming fights over abortion restrictions and previous session filibuster collateral damage.
The Texas Department of Public Safety will boost DWI patrols for a 10 day period through July 7 focusing on high risk times and locations. DPS Director Steven McCraw urges Texans to designate sober drivers and notes the crackdown is funded by a Texas Transportation grant.
