Texas school finance reform cuts Baytown area property taxes 17 cents
When the Texas Legislature rewrote school funding in May it cut local property tax rates by 17 cents per $100 for four Baytown area districts. The change shifts more financing to the state, with a three year plan to reduce net taxes by 6.9 billion. Reforms expand the business tax base and raise cigarette and used car taxes to offset local cuts.
