NASA weights cheaper way to return astronauts to the Moon
NASA shuttle program manager John Shannon proposes a low cost plan using shuttle components to send astronauts to the Moon with two new vehicles a cargo container and an Apollo like capsule. The idea aims for a $6.6 billion price tag and could reach the Moon or ISS, though critics say it is less powerful than the current Ares I and V designs. Shannon says he favors going to the Moon and had discussed the concept with an independent review panel at NASA.
