Texas Senate OKs education reform plan
The Texas Senate approved a education reform bill 27 to 4, promising $2.9 billion for public schools, a $2,500 pay raise for teachers over two years, and higher funding for bilingual and charter schooling, while property taxes would drop to $1.10 per $100. A conference committee may seek a compromise with the House after mixed support and a pending Texas Supreme Court review.
