Mobile home subdivision on panel agenda

Baytown Planning Commission will revisit the Orchard Crossing mobile home subdivision near Highlands to revise preliminary approval. Changes include replacing an open flood control ditch with a closed storm sewer and rearranging lots to preserve trees and a ravine. A temporary sewage treatment plant is planned and will be dismantled after use.

Obstructions banned under new city traffic view ordinance

City Council approved a measure outlawing plants or structures that block drivers’ view at intersections and driveways, allowing only pre existing buildings to remain. A second ordinance amends kennel rules to permit four or more dogs for owners who owned them before the change, with compliance relaxed. The council also moved to seek Emergency Veteran's Job Training Act funds to train veterans from Vietnam and Korea in in demand technical fields, with VA reimbursement at 50 percent of base salary to a $10,000 cap. Public works actions included water and sewer connections for Forest Bend, Goose Creek land dedication, interim utilities for a mobile home, housing rehab contracts, final payment for Oakwood Street improvements, and several equipment contracts.

Space weapon talks inch toward U S Soviet pact

President Reagan accepts a Soviet proposal to discuss banning space weapons if Moscow will discuss resuming nuclear arms talks. McFarlane said the United States might attend talks in Vienna in September even if the Kremlin won t discuss atomic weapons. The move comes amid tense relations as Moscow withdraws from arms talks to protest U S missile deployments in Western Europe.
