Former Navy SEAL Leif Babin to speak at art gallery
Southeast Texas native and former Navy SEAL Leif Babin will speak at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Portrait of a Warrior Memorial Art Gallery, 308 W. Texas Ave. Babin, who served nine years and trained officers in leadership, will discuss leadership and his Iraq era experiences. He is linked with Baytown artist Ken Pridgeon’s portraits of Texans who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Alleged killer's trial begins in Houston capital case
Isaac Norvell Smith, 49, faces capital murder charges in the June 17, 2010 stabbing death of 71 year old Julia Muckleroy in the 300 block of North Street. The jury trial opened in the 177th Criminal District Court as investigators tied DNA evidence to Smith after he was named a person of interest.

FM 1409 project advances to public comment phase
Chambers County plans to seek public input on the environmental assessment for a new FM 1409 segment. The route will run from the FM 565 dead end at Old River-Winfree through Mont Belvieu to I-10 and back to FM 565 in Cove. The county will build the road as a state highway with reimbursement via a per-car state cost mechanism.
