Warmer Atlantic Waters Linked to Stronger Hurricanes
A new study in Nature shows that every one degree Fahrenheit rise in tropical Atlantic sea surface temperature raises overall hurricane activity by about 49 percent, with 45 percent more intense storms and 36 percent more hurricanes. Saunders notes the link helps explain recent extreme seasons. NOAA’s Landsea cautions against attributing changes to climate trends alone.
