In the 100 block of East Sterling on Monday afternoon, a stray dog resisted capture. Erwin tried to seize the dog and the animal clamped on his thumb, breaking a tooth. He was taken to San Jacinto Memorial hospital for treatment. The dog’s head was sent to a Houston laboratory to test if the dog was mad, police said.
Trustees of Baytown awarded Maxwell Construction a 55,844 dollar contract to remodel and enlarge the Horace Mann Junior High gymnasium. The bid was the lowest among six and archiect Jack Reber said the board aims to have work completed by the next school year.

A fire at the J. E. McDaniel residence on West Main caused heavy smoke and alarm but limited damage. Mrs. McDaniel was hospitalized with her husband and daughter while their infant Bonnie Jean stayed with tenants on the second floor.
