Barbers Hill ISD trims classroom count for new Elementary North
Barbers Hill ISD plans a smaller Elementary North as part of the 2011 75 million bond. The stand alone campus will house second and third graders in one wing and fourth and fifth graders in another, sharing cafeteria and library space. Construction begins this month with a fall 2014 opening. 16 classrooms will be removed from the original plan due to slower growth and higher costs. The same approach will guide Elementary South.

Hawthorne becomes Chambers County Sheriff with changes
Hawthorne, now top lawman for about a month, plans a new department look with uniforms and vehicle markings funded by seized money. He has begun overhauling hiring practices, offering positions to deputies who applied to stay under the new administration.

Carver Elementary 3rd Grader Struck By Truck
Ken Shawn Traylor an eight-year-old third grader at G W Carver Elementary was hit by a truck while crossing Laredo Street in Baytown. Police said he ran from a yard on the west side and did not look both ways before crossing. The driver, returning home, said he had no time to react. Traylor was listed in critical condition. Charges Dropped in Lone Star College Shooting Case
Prosecutors dropped charges against Carlton Berry 22 in the Lone Star College shooting case at Houston area campus. Initial reports tied Berry to the Jan 22 incident that injured him and two others, but authorities later identified Trey Foster 22 as the shooter.
