Texas bays close in February to remove crab traps
Texas Parks and Wildlife will close all bays from February 16 to March 3 to aid removal of abandoned crab traps. Game wardens remove over 2,000 traps annually, yet many remain and harm shrimpers, fish, and scenery. Local Game Warden Tim Holland notes traps vastly outnumber wardens and fill bays. Texas hosts 259 licensed commercial crabbers.
