Prison college program reshapes inmates into productive graduates
J T Langley recalls Sonny Evans and other inmates who taught and learned at Lee College Huntsville Center after the 1974 Walls Unit hostage incident. The program grew into six units, offering academic and vocational courses that yield degrees and high post release employment. Rand Corp data show recidivism drops with college education, while Texas spends far more on incarceration than education.
