Pope Paul keeps John XXIII remains in Vatican grotto
Vatican City reports Pope Paul VI decided to permanently place the remains of Pope John XXIII in a Vatican grotto despite John XXIII’s earlier wishes for burial in St. Peter’s Basilica. The decision follows visits by thousands who descend beneath the basilica to pray at John XXIII’s resting place. In New York Sir Alec Douglas-Home argues that easing Communist influence rests on comfort and access to basic needs, citing Britain’s stance on Cuba.
