A 33 year old Baytown man, Lance Lante Fontenot, charged after stealing three boxes of candy from a convenience store on Garth Road. Police say his prior theft convictions led to a felony upgrade with a 15000 dollar bond. Fontenot had more than ten theft convictions in the past year.
Maria Uribe, a 30 year old Ray on Mexico native and mother of three, volunteers at the Chambers County Anahuac Library and teaches a three day class on making piratas, a Mexican party favor. She shows families inexpensive crafts, noting a star piñata she made for about six dollars after years of watching her mother and grandmother craft.
Harris County Commissioners Court endorsed a 1.5 million plan to repave up to eight miles of Highlands residential streets by midsummer, part of a broader effort with 1.2 million for Jacinto City and Galena Park. Road official Jack Rodriguez said the program uses a unit-cost bidding approach after surveying streets.
Republican lawmakers led by Congressman Ted Poe move to force immediate congressional approval of the Keystone XL pipeline after the Obama Administration tabling. The Keystone for A Secure Tomorrow Act seeks to bypass delays and advance the transcontinental project.
The Baytown Office of Emergency Management and Chambers County Emergency Services join to offer a six week course that trains residents in basic life saving skills. The three hour class runs weekly to prepare citizens for disasters and improve community readiness.
