The U S Court of Appeals ruled that employers may be held liable for sexual harassment by key supervisors even without knowledge of the misconduct. The decision overruled a 1980 ruling and held that a supervisor’s status as an agent can compel employer responsibility. Mechelle Vinson's attorney welcomed the ruling as a significant victory.
Henry Lee Lucas, linked to more than 100 slayings, receives a 60 year term for the November 1977 killing of 18 year old Lillie Pearl Darty in Marshall. He had earlier been sentenced to death and convicted in seven other deaths. Lucas led investigators to the body site and confessed, naming no accomplice.
State Rep. Mark Stiles introduced House Concurrent Resolution No. 26 pledging full support for a Texas Gulf Coast naval base. The measure passed the House immediately and goes to Senate ally Carl Parker. Navy eyes about 15 Gulf sites, with seven off Texas. Potential 6000 construction jobs and $50-$80 million yearly payroll. total expenditures may reach $100 million.
