Hidden water tank swam past the Baytown front
In Baytown a practice of young swimmers sought a covert water hole behind Michigan and Oklahoma streets near Sun Oil Co. The old water tank served as an off limits diving spot with a pier and a market of adventures, protected by barrier fences and challenges from Sun Oil’s Johnny Sands. Former tank boys Johnny Opryshek and Bev Bergeron recall routes to reach it and the rule bending to swim during lunch or after school.
