Canal May Harm The Environment
Fort Worth engineer Col. R S Kristoferson told a University of Houston seminar that the Trinity River canal plan must be designed to protect the environment while allowing flood control navigation and industrial growth. He cited potential environmental impacts of private development along the proposed 370 mile route from the coast to Dallas and Fort Worth and suggested zoning or limited development as safeguards. Congress has funded planning with 150000 last year and 500000 this year, with design due in two to three years before a construction vote.
