Tax credits for college grow and expand reach
Washington researchers note a new American Opportunity tax credit replaces the Hope credit with a maximum of 2500 dollars. It runs in 2009 and 2010, covers the first four years, requires at least half time enrollment, and offers 40 percent refundable value. Eligible expenses include tuition, fees and books, with phase outs above 80000 dollars modified adjusted gross income. A lifetime learning credit of up to 2000 dollars remains for other students.
