Sinking Houston Suburb Grips Homeowner as Tide Rises
In Brownwood Baytown Texas, ex petroleum engineer Floyd watches his waterfront home lose height at five inches yearly as groundwater pumping and clay compaction push the area toward regular flooding. Residents pursue levees and new reservoirs while officials study a massive Corps project to close the bay mouth and create a lake, costs spiraling into millions. Floyd compares his fate to a captain going down with his ship.
