Walter Dodd 80 of Bryan died recently. Wee Brother Dodd and Betty of 326 Barnes attended the service in Bryan. Also noted are city planning and regional meeting speakers and local civic events including voter registration sign up and Kiwanis banquet details.

Former President Harry S. Truman, age 88, was admitted to Research Hospital in Kansas City today. His physician described his condition as fairly weak as he arrived by ambulance, accompanied by his wife and escort Mike Westwood.
The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1173 will meet at 7 30 p m Friday at Fire Station No 2 Market to report on a council meeting. A union committee discussed the policemen 1 merit raise and questioned the standard used. The group listed Raymond Battle George Baldridge John Humphrey as officers. City officials noted possible training officer for the department, more equipment, pension improvements, and potential staffing increases.
Baytown school district teachers form the Baytown Vocational Education Association to foster a bond among educators preparing students for business careers in management and industry. Officers include W. J. Tadlock as president and Allen Alford as vice president, with multiple teachers from Robert E. Lee and Ross Sterling High Schools joining as officers and members.

In a special session Wednesday at 5 p.m. Mayor Glen Walker and Councilmen Leonard Stasney David Evans and Lamar Kelley voted unanimously to first read an ordinance annexing a 10 foot strip of land along FM 1405 565 and SH 146 from the U S Steel gate to Interstate 10 to aid new industrial development such as McKay Chemical Co with favorable freight rates. The hearing was Jan 7 and state law requires a second reading no sooner than 20 days after publication.
