Hoffa Jury Tampering Trial Opens Monday in Tennessee
James R. Hoffa, president of the Teamsters Union, faces a federal jury tampering trial in Nashville, with six co defendants. The case stems from a 1962 conspiracy to influence jurors, linked to Hoffa's era of high stakes bargaining and a three year contract in Chicago. The sprawling indictments accuse Hoffa and others of offers and schemes to sway jurors, with possible prison terms up to 20 years per count. The trial follows Hoffa victories and growing internal unrest within the union, and could span six weeks to three months.
