Trustees Decide Sites For 3 Of 4 New Schools
Trustees choose locations for three new schools funded by bonds. The Highlands elementary site on the north side of Houston Street may house a split school with K-2 in one wing and 3-5 in another. A junior school goes on Archer Road opposite Stallworth Stadium, and a special education building sits beside Stuart Career Center on TV Drive. A fourth elementary would lie between I 10 and Baker Road near John Martin Road and Highway 146. The board weighed keeping the Highlands school at its current site to avoid buying land, and discussed consolidating the old and new schools into a single facility with split grades to save costs.
