Budget Board Reports 2 Year State Spending Plan
The Legislative Budget Board released budget recommendations for the next two years totaling over 3 billion dollars, about 274 million above the current two year period. The plan, prepared by legislators, will go to the Legislature for consideration and aligns with a 3.1 million dollar target noted by former Governor Price Daniel. Projections include 25 281 732 in additional funds possibly from extending the current cor Dion franchise tax for another year, while House action targets two spending measures. Governor Connally called for emergency appropriations totaling 917 779 to support higher education study and staff expansion, with reorganization costs offset by assigning DPS chief Homer Garrison to civil defense duties. Former Gov. Daniel previously led civil defense and a wartime relief role. The Senate Pay bill moves toward final action, and Senate committees receive assignments as House Rules prepares for session work including bills hearings next week.
